Beating Stress The Natural Way

September 4th 2008 04:43
We all know that stress can be one of the biggest contributors to a rosacea flare up. I know because it’s one of the two major factors for me (alcohol being the second). It is important to keep stress levels as low as possible, especially if this affects you. Sometimes though you feel it’s hard to keep the stress levels down when you’re having a flare up and it does seem to be a never ending cycle, but it can be done. You can control your stress levels by doing simple things to relax you. I’m a naturally nervous type person anyhow and find myself in a lot of stressful situations. These are my top 5 stress relievers.

Relieving Stress

5 simple things to do to relieve stress:
1. Drinking lots of water throughout the day. It’s as simple as that. Our bodies are made up of mostly water and we need to stay well hydrated. Not only do we need water to replenish what we lose daily, but drinking extra water helps to flush out toxins in the body that can cause stress. I actually found out about this while on a “water kick” I made a conscious effort to drink more water and found that my mood had lifted tremendously. My family noticed it too. I believe it certainly does help.
2. Exercise: I am totally guilty of not doing this but I have gone through plenty of exercise phases in the past and have recently made an effort to get out there and become more active. I feel more alive, healthier, more positive and less stressed. There is no need to go hard and fast, especially if you tend to blush after exercise. I go beet red after moderate exercise so I need to keep it fairly low. Oh, don’t forget to stay as cool as possible. Don’t exercise in the middle of a hot summer’s day and remember to splash cool water on your face afterwards.

3. Meditation is a fantastic way to relax and unwind. You don’t need to do it yogi style, although if you want to that’s great. Just lying down or sitting comfortably and simply listening to your favourite relaxing music and imagining something pleasant is all you need to do at this stage. Try to make time to do this daily for at least 10 minutes.
4. Laughter: We all enjoy a good laugh. Laughing is one of the best things you can do to help relieve stress and stay in a positive state of mind. Watch a comedy movie, pal around with a friend who makes you laugh; play with your children, whatever makes you giggle. Not only do you feel good but a daily dose of laughter is crucial to a healthy body. Healthy mind, healthy body…
5. If you can’t manage to do any of the above and you find yourself in a state of stress or panic, deep breathing works wonders. Close your eyes and take a few deep breaths, you’ll be surprised how such a simple form of stress relief is often overlooked

Drinking water definitely helps remove the toxins in our bodies.

Paul Wilson who wrote the "Little Book of Calm" made this suggestion in his book...

Sip Warm Water....A glass of chilled water will calm you more than most other liquids.

A cup of warm water will calm you even more.

Sounds like a great idea I'll have to start trying during stressful times.
