Definition
It is caused by uncontrolled growth of epithelial cell of colon or rectum wall.

Colon including rectum, is favorite place for tumor occurs. Almost all of colorectal cancer is adenocarcinoma.
Thus, colorectal cancer is the third most frequently cancer in men and women and the second highest cause of cancer deaths in the US and Europe.

Risk Factors
Colorectal cancer, is one of the most well-known cancer about its growth and development, because lot of research have been done about it.

The risk of developing colorectal cancer increases with advancing age. More than 90% of cases occur in people aged 50 or older.Other risk factors include having:
- Inflammatory bowel disease, long term duration of having this disease may undergo some degeneration or DNA damage, thus increase risk of cancer.
- a family history of colorectal cancer or colorectal polyps, person with positive family history maybe possess genetic predisposition of colorectal cancer.
- Lack of regular physical activity
- Low fruit and vegetable intake, increase transit time for carcinogent
- high-fat diet, increased amount of bile acid in bowel lumen, thus will increase of carcinogenic agent in bowel lumen.
- Overweight and obesity.
- Alcohol consumption.
- Tobacco use

What are the Symptoms?
People who have polyps or colorectal cancer maybe asymptomatic or don't have symptoms, especially at first. Someone also could have polyps or colorectal cancer and not know it.
Symptoms that may occurs in colorectal patient, such as:
- Blood in or on your stool (bowel movement).
- Pains, aches, or cramps in your stomach that don't go away.
- Losing weight and you don't know why.
- Change in bowel habits (constipation or diarrhea).

If you have any of these symptoms, you should consult your doctor. These symptoms, not only associated with cancer but also other kind of disease. However, in order to diagnosis your condition, there will be some examinations.

How to Prevent?
A study from Denmark, admit that a healthy lifestyle, which means exercising, eating healthfully, keeping the waistline trim, limiting alcohol intake, and avoiding smoking, could reduce the risk of colorectal cancer by 23%.

Healthy Habits Add Up
Healthy lifestyle recommendations included avoiding smoking; eating a healthy diet; being physically active at least 30 minutes a day; drinking no more than seven alcoholic drinks per week for women and 14 drinks per week for men; and having a waist circumference of no more than 35 inches for women and 40 inches for men.

Researchers found that when all five healthy lifestyle recommendations is followed by a person, they cut their risk for colorectal cancer by 23%.

About 13% of colorectal cancer cases might have been avoided if people had complied with just one additional healthy lifestyle recommendation.


"Colorectal cancer is predominantly a disease of Westernized countries, indicating that components of a Western lifestyle may contribute to risk," Kirkegaard and the team write in the journal article. "Our study reveals the useful public health message that even modest differences in lifestyle might have a substantial impact on colorectal cancer risk and emphasizes the importance of continuing vigorous efforts to convince people to follow the lifestyle recommendations."

Summary
Most Cancer is related to person habits and lifestyle, since it is a non-communicable disease. Incidence of cancer is raising in last decades, maybe related to sedentary lifestyle, and more early detection.
Exercise and healthy lifestyle

Cancer treatment is one of the most difficult in medical field, because it's very difficult to kill the cancer cell without damaging normal cell. And it mostly effective for early stage.
So it's important for us to understand symptoms that related to cancer and undergo annual screening according national recommendations.
Since most cancer is related to lifestyle and habits, in order to prevent the cancer is important to understand to high risk lifestyle.
And adopt it to change your lifestyle to healthier.
