Medicine is to heal from the inside

Mahkota Dewa a special fruit

Introduction
Herbal medicine has been practiced and become parts of our culture since ancient history and still continue until today. We can ignore the portions of herbal medicine, since most of well known drugs come from herbal, such as morphine as powerful analgesic, curcuma as hepatoprotector, Artemisin and Quinine as anti-malaria, and so on.

WHO recognized the prospect of herbal as options for treatment of human disease. They manage the herbal medicine into more scientific so that can be used wisely.

Usually herbal components such as fruits, root, leaf, etc. not only contain one component like modern drugs, so that give more effects than modern drugs, that is also a problem for herbal medicine, since we can't predict the side-effects or dose-relationship. But, with the technology of extraction, scientists can recognized the active component more specifically for the specific of the disease.

Here, i wanna discuss about a fruit, a special fruit maybe. Just like this phrase "apple a day, keep the doctor away."
What is the fruit? Mahkota Dewa or the God Crown (Phaleria Macrocarpa)

Mahkota Dewa
Since ancient civilization, human faces with many kind of disease, and human with their knowledge to find the cure for the disease by several ways. One of them is from empirical practice of herbal medicine.

Mahkota Dewa or the God Crown ((Phaleria Macrocarpa) is a fruit that has been believed from traditional Indonesian culture can cure several disease. This plant lives in Papua (an Island north of Australia). This plant is a typically tropical plant about 1,5-5 meters height.
Mahkota Dewa

I'm not gonna discuss about the specification of the plant, but about its benefits for our health. Since ancient times, mahkota dewa is being used to cure several disease such as gout arthritis, allergy, and jaundice. But with recent technology, we can extract or find the active components from the fruits.

There are several diseases that mahkota dewa can be used in the treatment: 1. Cancer, there are lot of rumours that mahkota dewa can be used in treatment of cancer, And from the research, there is an component of mahkota dewa that can kill the cancer cell, but there is a need to do more research about that.

2. Eczema or allergy reaction, mahkota dewa fruit can be used in treatment of mild or moderate allergic reaction, because its contains polifenol at sufficient amount that can minimized the allergic reaction.

3. Diabetis Melitus, mahkota dewa fruit is believed can lowered the blood glucose level, so it can be used along with modern drugs.

4. Hypertension, mahkota dewa fruit can be used in therapy of prehypertension and mild-hypertension, because it contains flavonoids that can improve the circulation, lowers the cholesterol level.

5. Gout Arthritis, flavonoids component also can be used as anti-inflammatory agents for arthritis such gout and osteoarthritis thus relieving the pain.

Active Components
- Alkaloid, for detoxification.
- Saponin:
o Improve our immunity
o Lowers the blood glucose
o Prevent the thrombosis or abnormal clotting formation
Flavonoid
o Lowers the cholesterol and improve the lipid profile
o as anti-inflammatory agent
o as anti-oxidant, may help to slow down the aging process.
- Polifenol
o as antihistamin

As we see from above, mahkota dewa can be used in treatment of several disease. But the questions are: is there any safety amount, can be consume daily?

Well, i'll try to answer that herbal medicine always promote themself, as treatment without any adverse reactions since its come from the nature. But i think that's not really true, But from the components of the mahkota, actually there is no problem related to dose, but i think i would be better if consuming 1 up to 2 fruits a day. Or maybe you can buy a product that contain the mahkota dewa extract and consume it with the recommendations from the brochure.

At the end of my article, i would like to say. There is no modalities of treatment is superior from others but they are complementing each other.

Coffee Consumption Lowers Women Stroke Risk

Introduction
Coffee is a brewed drink prepared from roasted seeds, called coffee beans, of the coffee plant. Green unroasted coffee is one of the most traded agricultural commodities in the world. Due to its caffeine content, coffee often has a stimulating effect on humans. Today, coffee is the third most popular drink in the world, behind water and tea.

Since coffee has become one of the most popular drink, there is a need to do scientific studies to examine the relationship between coffee consumption and an array of medical conditions.
Coffee

Caffein, Does it really bad?
Despite 20 years of reassuring research about coffee and healt effects, many people still avoid caffeinated coffee because they worry about its health effects. However, current research reveals that in moderation—a few cups a day—coffee is a safe beverage that may even offer some health benefits. The September issue of Harvard Women's Health Watch weighs the pros and cons of this popular beverage and eases the concerns of moderate coffee drinkers.

The latest research has not only confirmed that moderate coffee consumption doesn't cause harm, it's also uncovered possible benefits. Studies show that the risk for type 2 diabetes is lower among regular coffee drinkers than among those who don't drink it. Also, coffee may reduce the risk of developing gallstones, discourage the development of colon cancer, improve cognitive function, reduce the risk of liver damage in people at high risk for liver disease, and reduce the risk of Parkinson's disease. Coffee has also been shown to improve endurance performance in long-duration physical activities.

For those who drink coffee to stay alert, new research suggests that you'll stay more alert, particularly if you are fighting sleep deprivation, if you spread your coffee consumption over the course of the day. For instance, if you usually drink 16 ounces in the morning, try consuming a 2-3 ounce serving every hour or so. Again, moderation is the key.

However, as the September issue notes, coffee is not completely innocent. Caffeine, coffee's main ingredient is a mild addictive stimulant. And coffee does have modest cardiovascular effects such as increased heart rate, increased blood pressure, and occasional irregular heartbeat that should be considered. Studies have been largely inconclusive regarding coffee and its effect on women's health issues such as breast health, cancer, and osteoporosis. But, the negative effects of coffee tend to emerge in excessive drinking so it is best to avoid heavy consumption

In Conclusion, for many years coffee is being avoided because the high content of caffeine, and from the health researchs about caffeine show that caffeine isn't good for our health. But, scientist never satisfied with that results, they still optimist about the potential health benefits of coffee since it is most popular beverages. After 20 years of researchs, we found that there are lot potential health benefits of coffee as we seen above..

Coffee and Women Stroke Risk
Women who consume one or more cups of coffee daily have a lower risk of stroke than those who consume less than one cup of coffee a day, according to a study published online March 10 by the Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden, and colleagues evaluated the association between coffee consumption and stroke incidence.

The investigators found that coffee consumption significantly lowered the risk of total stroke, cerebral infarction, and subarachnoid hemorrhage, after adjusting for risk factors. There was no dose-response relationship between coffee consumption and risk of stoke. Women who drank one to two, three to four, or more than five cups of coffee per day had a significantly reduced risk of stroke compared with those who drank less than one cup per day. Smoking, body mass index, alcohol consumption, and diabetes or hypertension history did not modify this association between coffee consumption and cerebral infarction.
Coffee is Life

From this study, we can see that coffee is not harmful as we thought before, coffee may also be a protective factors.
