Recommended Cleansing and Moisturizing Routine
There are so many skin care products on the net designed to help sufferers of rosacea, I personally have never bought anything other than the Rosacea Ltd III disks ( I will be writing of my own experiences of this product), so I can’t comment on anything other than the disks which I did find quite useful. I don’t really believe we need these expensive products though.
I have never used skin care products designed for acne. Although rosacea is sometimes called “adult acne” it is not. Acne products can make rosacea worse. Do not use them.
I have always been a big fan of the cetaphil bar. It’s not “All Natural”, but it is exceptionally mild, one of the mildest gentlest products there is out there. I started using this when I received my Rosacea Disks in the mail and the company recommended this bar (not a soap, mind you) along with a drop of jojoba oil on a wet cleansed face. I have always tried to use the cetaphil bar and the only times I haven’t is when I’ve run out. When this happens, I usually turn to the good old sorbolene which I think is a very good substitute, but I just don’t get that “clean” feeling after using it. On some rare occasions, I have had to use regular hand and body soap, and that’s a big no no. I notice almost every time, usually the next day, my skin starts to flare up. I KNOW this is a trigger for me and no one should really be using that kind of stuff for their face anyway, especially those with sensitive skin.
For moisturising, I alternate between using jojoba oil and sorbolene cream. Although a small amount of jojoba isn’t supposed to block pores, I do find I get other forms of pimples, small colourless bumpy spots. I’m really not sure what they are. Most times I do use sorbolene. I like it and I don’t think it’s a contributing factor to my rosacea flare ups.
I have to do this cleansing and moisturising routine twice daily. Once in the morning and once in the evening. I am for the most part quite slack in this department, with the tendency to only wash my face only once a day. When I do have a flare up I will wash twice a day, I need to become that little bit more strict with it.
Soooo, plan of attack is to wash twice daily with cetaphil and moisturise with sorbolene in the mornings and jojoba oil in the evenings. I should do it this way I’m told as the sorbolene acts as a barrier to all the gunk in the air during the day and at night time the jojoba oil can help repair the skin while sleeping.
