Rosacea Healthy Diet Update
June 12th 2008 02:58
It’s been a while now since I stopped logging my dietary intake for my rosacea journal and although I have stopped with the food tracking, I haven’t stopped with the healthier eating plan. Good news is, is that since switching to a better diet, I’ve had no major rosacea flare ups. In fact, I’ve only had slight redness most of the time, although at times I did turn quite red, mainly after drinking a bit of alcohol (phooey) or if I’ve had a busy day running around a lot. I at least haven’t had any of those nasty papules forming and no burning or stinging sensations. Of course, I may be going through a remission stage but the coincidence of the healthier eating plan along with reduced rosacea symptoms to me seems like I’m heading in the right direction.
My eyes still get red a lot and have to put eye drops in. I have a feeling I need to drink more water to remedy that. I vaguely remember a while ago doing a little test on drinking a lot of water to help with that situation. Being winter now I tend to not drink much water at all so maybe it should be something to try to do more of.
So as far I can tell , a change in diet has definitely improved, but not eliminated my symptoms. I see a huge change from cutting out a lot of processed foods and eating more natural whole foods and that’s great! It sometimes is hard to take the extra effort to prepare meals, but I just have to keep reminding myself that it is all for the better. I’ve gotten into the habit of having a couple of bowls of soup a day, made with all natural ingredients. I make up big batches of vegetable stock and freeze them so they are ready for use in soup recipes when I need them. This helps tremendously with my diet ensuring I have adequate vitamins and goodness, even if I have some off days, when we get a pizza or fish and chips or something unhealthy like that.
I like my new change of life. My whole family is benefiting from this as well, so if I can do something good for them, then that’s just an added bonus.
