The Beginnings of a Dietary Journal
May 15th 2008 03:29
Well a while back I saw my natural therapist and the first thing she suggested was to keep a dietary journal. I was supposed to keep track of everything I ate, plus any other events that may have triggered my rosacea from the past, such as having a stressful day and such. I saw her in the middle of an extreme flare up and quite honestly couldn't even begin to concentrate on doing any form of record keeping. Stress level was up due to burning and redness and just feeling really bad about myself. I couldn't even look in the mirror because I just felt I looked so freaky. I was not in any mood to try and relax and the pain and intense itchiness was so unbearable, I headed to my cupboard to find my roaccutane pills. Yes my condition improved but no, I was no closer to becoming “drug free”
That was the beginning of last week, I’m no longer taking the pills, my face has settled but am still feeling some tingling and itching at times. My face is a so called healthy pink, hmm… “This is the perfect time to do some tests” she says. My body is just waiting for something to trigger it off. “Lets see if we figure out what is causing your flare ups”
Well now I’m feeling better, I will start recording everything I eat and drink, plus all those other things like stress levels and exercise, and how my skin is feeling on that particular day rah, rah, rah. I do hope this works and hope there is no need for me to go running back to pills again.
Anyhooo, I firmly believe myself that MY rosacea is caused by a build up of absolute crap that I put into my body. I have noticed in the past that when I’m on my so called health kicks, my rosacea doesn’t seem too much of a problem for me, but when I fall off that health kick, which is shortly after mind you, I tend to notice it more. Before this last recurrence, my diet was awful. Everything I ate was processed, greasy and just plain bad. I relied a lot on takeaway for dinner. KFC, Hungary Jacks, Pizzas, you name it. I was going to name what I ate on a typical day, but decided that it just looked really shameful. Let’s put it this way, there was nothing good about what I ate. On top of that, I started smoking cigarettes again (a big no no) Have been on and off again smoker for a while. Thankfully, I managed to quit again and have happily haven’t had a cigarette for about a week now. This time it’s permanent.
So on the advice of my natural therapist, I have totally changed my diet and am eating more whole foods again. I now make most meals from scratch and have changed all the white stuff to the brown variety. (bread, rice etc) Although, this hasn’t cleared my face as yet, I am hoping after a while of healthy eating it will return to normal. I’m not going too strict on what I eat just yet, as I know if I make it too hard, I won’t keep it up. I’m just going to try and implement a better eating plan, record it all daily and take it from there. I love sweet things so I’m still going to have some every now and then, just not too much. If this doesn’t help with my rosacea, I will be prepared to take this test a step further. Let’s hope not!
