Understanding Fibromyalgia

Introduction
Fibromyalgia syndrome (FMS), a well known disease of human population, that cause the chronic widespread pain. The prevalence of fibromyalgia only surpassed by osteoarthritis as the most common diagnosis among patients seen in rheumatology offices. This problems often found in women than men, about 4 times more frequently.

Recently, there is less known about fibomyalgia, some say it as "unexplained clinical conditions" or "functional somatic syndromes" that are characterized more by symptoms, suffering, and disability than by consistent tissue abnormality. Therefore, there have been suggestions that fibromyalgia may represent a form of somatization disorder.

Fibromyalgia patients usually comes to clinics with a number of symptoms beyond pain. Fatigue is cited as a significant cause of morbidity for the vast majority of the patients. Subjective sleep disturbances, particularly in the form of non restorative sleep, are reported to occur in over three-quarters of patients. A majority of patients complain of difficulties with concentration and memory, a situation that has been termed "fibro fog." Approximately 20-40% of fibromyalgia patients also have an identifiable current mood disorder such as depression or anxiety disorder at the time of diagnosis, with a lifetime incidence as high as 70%.
Fibromyalgia Tender Points

When The Symptoms Occurs
Fibromyalgia usually causes symptoms that begin between ages 25 and 45, but children can also have fibromyalgia. In fact, physicians have identified fibromyalgia developing in toddlers, and some researchers believe that the first trigger points of myofascial pain syndrome, a disorder commonly coexisting with fibromyalgia, may cause severe colic symptoms in some infants.

In addition, a traumatic physical injury, such as an automobile accident, or an extremely traumatic emotional event, has been known to cause the onset of fibromyalgia. However, the vast majority of fibromyalgia patients, around 80%, are unable to identify a trigger event that initiated the first obvious “flare” of the syndrome. In addition, there may be a genetic tendency in some individuals to develop the syndrome; fibromyalgia tends to run in families.

Beyond Fibromyalgia Pain
Fibromyalgia patients display quantitative abnormalities in pain perception, in the form of both allodynia-perceiving pain even from a non-painful stimulus, such as light touch-and hyperalgesia-an augmentation of pain processing in which a painful stimulus is magnified and perceived with higher intensity than it would be by a normal volunteer.

In theory, such a state can conceptually result from widespread changes within the target organs (i.e., skin, muscles, etc.), from alterations in pain processing within the central nervous system, or some combination of both processes. Another explanation about fibromyalgia that Fibromyalgia pain was a result of peripheral abnormalities, particularly alterations in skeletal muscle. However, more recent studies have generally failed to confirm the presence of such alterations, though it is recognized that peripheral insults may play a role in instigating or maintaining fibromyalgia. On the other hand, supporting evidences posited the role of altered central pain processing (ie, "central sensitization") as underlying the pain of fibromyalgia.

How is Fibromyalgia Diagnose
Doctors diagnose fibromyalgia based on a patient's symptoms and physical exam. Patients experience pain and stiffness in the muscles, but there are no measurable findings on X-rays or lab tests. While fibromyalgia does not damage the joints or organs, the constant aches and fatigue can have a significant impact on daily life.

One of the unique aspects of fibromyalgia is the presence of tender points in specific locations on the body. When these points are pressed, people with fibromyalgia feel pain, while people without the condition only feel pressure.

Management of Fibromyalgia
The goal of fibromyalgia treatment is to minimize pain, sleep disturbances, and mood disorders. Doctors may recommend medications that help ease your symptoms -- ranging from familiar over-the-counter pain relievers to prescription drugs.
Exercise for Fibromyalgia

Besides drugs, an exercise can relieve several fibromyalgia symptoms. Physical activity can reduce pain and improve fitness. Exercising just three times a week has also been shown to relieve fatigue and depression. Walking, stretching, and water aerobics are good forms of exercise to start with for people with fibromyalgia.

Acupunture - Formal studies have produced mixed results on the use of acupuncture for fibromyalgia, but some patients say it eases their symptoms. This traditional Chinese practice involves inserting thin needles at key points on the body. Acupressure stimulates the same pressure points and may be a good alternative for people who want to avoid needles.

Many people with fibromyalgia have trouble concentrating, a phenomenon known as fibro fog. Treatment for pain and insomnia may help patients, there are other steps you can take to improve concentration. Write notes about things you need to remember, keep your mind active by reading or doing puzzles, and break tasks up into small, manageable steps.

Birth Control Pill at a Glance

Introduction
Nowadays, human population is quite high and crowded in several city. Besides that, people who lived in developed nations, tend to have more pressure in work place. That makes them try to focus in their career development. Those factors accumulate, and brings human to new habits. People tend to delay to have a child, and focus to their career, especially for women. Eventhough most of the women want to bear a child, but pregnancy is a matter of problem when they are building their career. Thus contraceptive methods has become basic needs.
The need of Contraceptive
Thinking about Contraceptive

The government also seeking for birth control, because they could manage the people efficiently, lowering pregnancy complication rates, also limits the density of population in some places.

The contraceptive methods have been developed and recognized by our civilization since ancient time. There are several methods from behavioural till sterilization. Each methods has it own benefits and disadvantages.
In this article, i'm gonna focus on birth control pills.

Birth Control Pills
Birth control pills (also called oral contraceptives or “the pill”) are used by millions of women to prevent pregnancy. For most women, the pill is a safe and highly effective form of birth control.

How does the pill work?
Birth control pills contain hormones that prevent ovulation (the release of an egg from an ovary). These hormones also cause other changes in the body that help prevent pregnancy. The mucus in the cervix thickens, which makes it hard for sperm to enter the uterus. The lining of the uterus thins, making it less likely that a fertilized egg can attach to it. Together, these events make it unlikely that pregnancy will occur.

With typical usage of contraceptive pills, about 8 in 100 women (8%) will become pregnant during the first year of using this method. When used perfectly, 1 in 100 women will become pregnant during the first year. To be effective at preventing pregnancy, the pill must be taken every day at the same time each day. The typical use pregnancy rate is higher than the perfect use pregnancy rate for birth control pills because a woman may forget to take the pill, or a pill may not be absorbed (because of vomiting, for instance).

Birth control pills do not protect against sexually transmitted diseases (STDs), including human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). A male or female condom should be used to provide STD protection if you are at risk of getting an STD.

Kinds of Birth Control Pills
There are two basic types of birth control pills: 1) combination pills, which contain the hormones estrogen and progestin, and 2) progestin-only pills.

Combination pills
The combination pill has health benefits in addition to preventing pregnancy. The pill helps to keep bleeding cycles regular, lighter, and shorter and reduces cramps. It can be used in the treatment of certain disorders that cause heavy bleeding and menstrual pain, such as fibroids and endometriosis, as well as conditions caused by imbalances in hormones. Some pills may help control acne. Combination pills may also decrease the risk of cancer of the uterus and ovary and improve bone density during perimenopause.

Some women are concerned about weight gain while taking birth control pills. Researchers have found no link between taking combination birth control pills and weight gain.

Combination birth control pills increase the risk of certain conditions. Some of these complications can be serious. They include the following: Blood clots in the legs, Heart attacks and stroke (smoking greatly increases the risk of these complications), Gallbladder disease, and Liver tumors.

Thus before choosing a contraception methods, your doctor will do history taking and several examinations to make sure that you don't have any contraindication for the contraception methods. For combination pills, history of vascular disease, diabetes, and certain cancers become serious precaution.

Progestin-only pill or the mini-pill, has become a solution for those women, wo want to use the pill, but not suit the combination one, because of the vascular problems such as blood clot, history of heart disease, hypertension, etc.

Get Beauty with Birth Control Pills
Every woman dream to have a beautiful skin, sexy and slim body. And women give their best to get it. What's the relationship between birth control pills and women's dream?

Well, there are a lot of methods of contraceptions, one of the most popular one is birth control pills.

Birth control pills also give side-effects related to physical appearances, such as increasing acne formation (especially in mini-pill), and increasing body weight. Thus give a problem for women, especially emotionally and psychologically. They become unconfident, then they would like to discontinue the pill.

But, scientists recently have developed the birth control pills that can reverse those effects. Thus can decrease acne formation, fairy skin (hirsutism), and less associated with increase of body weight.

Scientists have found that side-effects of birth control pills such as acne formation, hairy skin are associated with testosterone hormone, progestin in the pills has the potential of mimicry the testosterone thus could cause those problems.

Body Fat not Always Bad

Most of the women dream are having a good, sexy, body shape, which associated with slim body. Well, it has been accepted that beauty woman has slim body. Thus makes women try to make their body slim, and avoid to be fatty.

"Women are happier when they know that they lose their weight rather than increase of the body weight"

Because of that, most of the women do everything to get slimmer, such as extreme diet, liposuctioning, drugs, exercises, etc.
When women are slimmer, they are more confident, and easier to attract male.

But, the body fat not always bad for our health and our body.
Slim body

Women and Fat
Women tend to have more fat than men—about five percent more. By nature, a woman's body is developed to protect her and a potential fetus. As a result, women have more enzymes for storing fat and fewer enzymes for burning fat. Additionally, the estrogen women have activates fat storing enzymes and causes them to multiply. The minimum percent bodyfat considered safe for good health is 12% for females. The average adult body fat is closer to 22%-25% for women.

Eventhough women store more fat compare to men, but men are more prone to obesity related complications. Because women have high estrogen level, estrogen is responsible for fat storage in women. Estrogen mobilize fat and store in hips and legs, thus give a women body shape like a spanish guitar (pear-shaped).
While in men, fat deposition is not well controlled thus store in belly (apple-shaped).

Heredity is one: Scientists have identified a number of genes that help determine how many fat cells an individual develops and where these cells are stored. Hormones are also involved. At menopause, estrogen production decreases and the ratio of androgen (male hormones present in small amounts in women) to estrogen increases — a shift that’s been linked in some studies to increased abdominal fat after menopause. Some researchers suspect that the drop in estrogen levels at menopause is also linked to increased levels of cortisol, a stress hormone that promotes the accumulation of abdominal fat.

As the evidence against abdominal fat mounts, researchers and clinicians are trying to measure it, correlate it with health risks, and monitor changes that occur with age and overall weight gain or loss.
Body Fat Deposition

Central obesity is associated with cardiovascular complications and diabetes mellitus, since fat in belly, is rapidly metabolized thus increases serum cholesterol and lipid fat. While, the estrogenic storage fat (hips and legs) are slow to metabolized, usually use in hormone production. Thus women that have less fat in hips and legs associated with menstrual complaints.

The good news is that visceral fat yields fairly easily to exercise and diet, with benefits ranging from lower blood pressure to more favorable cholesterol levels. Subcutaneous fat located at the waist — the pinchable stuff can be frustratingly difficult to budge, but in normal-weight people, it’s generally not considered as much of a health threat as visceral fat is. In fact, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine in 2004 found that liposuction removal of subcutaneous fat (up to 23 pounds of it) in 15 obese women had no effect after three months on their measures of blood pressure, blood sugar, cholesterol, or response to insulin. Weight loss through diet and exercise, on the other hand, triggers many changes that have positive health effects.

Conclusion
Too little body fat can cause physiological complications, too much body fat is also harmful. For women over 32% fat, there is a dramatic correlation with illness and disease. Obesity has become a serious health threat for women at every stage of life.

Women dream to Have a slim body, but it should be without any fat, since fat is needed in our body physiology.

Abdominal fat is the most harmful fat storage and but it easier to lose it by diet or exercise.
